Some basic things and a few definitions:
The Cock Bird can be covering another of the basic colors which are ash-red, blue/black, and brown while the Hen covers no other color. She is what you see while the Cock can be ash red, but is also covering blue for example. Because of this the outcome of the youngsters color will be affected.
Sex Linked:
(1) Pertaining to a gene located in the sex chromosome (especially an X chromosome).
(2) Pertaining to a character or trait determined by gene(s) located in the sex chromosome(s).
Indigenous: What existed in the breed once declared a breed.
Dilute: To make fainter as in a color. It is sex linked
- Dilute of Black is Dun
- Dilute of Blue is Silver
- Dilute of Red is Yellow
- Dilute of Brown is Khaki, but it is not indigenous to Birmingham Rollers.
Color patterns are:
- Self
- T-Pattern
- Checkered
- Barred
- Barless, it is not indigenous to the Birmingham Roller
Self – there is no terminal tail bar. Self colors are usually found as black or dun. Recessive Red and White are self’s.
T-pattern – Like the self is a solid color all over except there is a terminal tail bar. Checkered and Barred also have a terminal tail bar.

Almond carries a semi-lethal gene in the homozygous state in cock birds. Avoid breeding an Almond to an Almond. They generally do not hatch or live long after. Suffer eye problems and other deformities to include a lethargic behavior |
